Day 1 Reflection: Worship the Rock of Our Salvation
Bible Texts: Psalm 95:1; 2 Samuel 22:47
As we begin this 40-day journey of fasting and prayer, it is only fitting that we start with worship. Worship is the foundation of a transformed life because it shifts our focus from ourselves to God. Psalm 95:1 calls us to rejoice in the Lord, our Rock and salvation, while 2 Samuel 22:47 proclaims His eternal reign.
1. Worship as a Response to Salvation
Psalm 95:1 says:
“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.”
The imagery of God as our “Rock” signifies His strength, stability, and reliability. He is unshakable, unchanging, and a sure foundation for those who trust in Him (Isaiah 26:4). When we worship, we acknowledge that our salvation comes from Him alone (Jonah 2:9).
2. Worship as an Expression of Victory
2 Samuel 22:47 declares:
“The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let God be exalted, the Rock of my salvation!”
This verse is part of King David’s song of deliverance after God gave him victory over his enemies. Worship is a declaration of God’s power and faithfulness. Just as David exalted God after his deliverance, we should also worship Him for the victories He has given us; spiritual, physical, emotional, and otherwise.
3. Worship Transforms the Worshiper
The act of worship is not just about giving God the praise He deserves; it also changes us. When we worship, we move from self-centeredness to God-centeredness. This shift in perspective brings renewal, joy, and strength (Isaiah 40:31).
Romans 12:1 urges us to present ourselves as a “living sacrifice” in worship. This means that true worship goes beyond singing and praises, it is a lifestyle of surrender and devotion to God.
4. Worship in Spirit and Truth
Jesus said in John 4:24, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Worship is not just about outward expressions but about an inward transformation. As we engage in this period of fasting and prayer, we must ensure that our worship is genuine, flowing from a heart transformed by His truth.
As we begin this fasting and prayer season, let us dedicate ourselves to worshipping the Rock of our salvation. When we worship, we declare His greatness, remind ourselves of His faithfulness, and position ourselves to receive more of His transformative power.
