Day 2: Praise God for All His Goodness
Key Text: Psalm 107:8, 15, 21 (KJV)
“Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!”
Reflection
Praise is a powerful spiritual practice that acknowledges God’s greatness, faithfulness, and kindness. Psalm 107 repeatedly calls on people to praise God for His goodness and His wonderful works. This refrain is repeated in verses 8, 15, 21, and 31, emphasizing how essential it is to give thanks for God’s mercies.
1. The Call to Praise (Psalm 107:8, 15, 21)
The Psalmist expresses a heartfelt desire that people would recognize and appreciate God’s goodness. It suggests that praise should be a natural response to experiencing God’s blessings and deliverance.
- Psalm 107:8 – This verse highlights how God’s goodness should move us to praise. He has done wonderful things, and it is only right that we glorify Him.
- Psalm 107:15 – A repetition of verse 8, reinforcing that God’s goodness and miraculous works are not one-time events but a continuous flow in our lives.
- Psalm 107:21 – This verse emphasizes that God’s goodness is demonstrated in His provision, healing, and redemption.
2. Reasons to Praise God for His Goodness
The goodness of God is evident in many ways throughout our lives:
a) His Mercy and Love
- Lamentations 3:22-23 – “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
- God’s goodness is evident in the mercy He shows us daily.
b) His Deliverance from Trouble
- Psalm 107:6 – “Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.”
- Throughout history, God has rescued His people from bondage, oppression, and affliction.
c) His Provision and Protection
- Psalm 23:1 – “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
- He provides food, shelter, strength, and peace to those who trust in Him.
d) His Healing Power
- Psalm 107:20 – “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”
- Many have experienced divine healing and restoration through God’s goodness.
e) His Salvation and Redemption
- Ephesians 2:8 – “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”
- The greatest demonstration of God’s goodness is Jesus Christ, who saved us from sin.
3. How to Praise God for His Goodness
Since God is good to us, how should we respond?
a) With Thanksgiving
- Psalm 100:4 – “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”
- A grateful heart opens doors to more blessings.
b) Through Worship
- John 4:24 – “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
- Worship acknowledges God’s supremacy.
c) By Testifying
- Psalm 107:2 – “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.”
- Share your testimony of God’s goodness to encourage others.
d) With a Life of Obedience
- Romans 12:1 – “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
- Living righteously is a way of praising God.
Conclusion
As we fast and pray, let us take time today to praise God for His goodness. Let our hearts overflow with gratitude, for He has done great things. Even in challenges, we can still see His goodness. Let us sing, pray, and declare His wonders to the world!
