“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.”
— 2 Peter 1:2–3 (NKJV)
Reflection
One of the greatest blessings available to believers in Christ is the continual multiplication of grace and peace. The apostle Peter begins his second epistle with a powerful declaration that grace and peace are not merely given once; they can increase and multiply in the life of the believer. However, this multiplication happens through the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ our Lord.
The word knowledge in this passage goes beyond mere intellectual awareness. It refers to a deep, personal, experiential relationship with Christ. The more we know Christ—His character, His word, His ways, and His will—the more we experience the abundance of His grace and the fullness of His peace.
Grace is the divine enablement that empowers believers to live above sin, overcome challenges, and fulfill God’s purpose. Peace, on the other hand, is the inner rest and assurance that comes from trusting in God despite external circumstances. When believers grow in the knowledge of Christ, these two blessings become increasingly evident in their lives.
Peter further explains that God’s divine power has already given us everything we need for life and godliness. This means that believers are not spiritually deficient. Through Christ, God has provided the resources necessary for victorious Christian living. The key to accessing these provisions is knowing Christ more deeply.
Jesus Himself emphasized this truth when He said:
“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
— John 10:10 (NKJV)
Abundant life flows from fellowship with Christ. As believers devote themselves to studying God’s Word, prayer, obedience, and communion with the Holy Spirit, their knowledge of Christ increases. As that knowledge grows, grace and peace multiply, strengthening them to walk in righteousness and fulfill God’s calling.
Furthermore, knowing Christ transforms the believer’s character. Paul echoed this truth when he declared:
“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.”
— Philippians 3:10 (NKJV)
True knowledge of Christ leads to spiritual transformation. It produces humility, holiness, patience, and love. It equips believers to live godly lives in a world filled with moral and spiritual challenges.
Therefore, the believer must intentionally pursue the knowledge of Christ. This pursuit involves studying the Scriptures, maintaining a vibrant prayer life, meditating on God’s Word, and living in obedience to His commands. Through these spiritual disciplines, believers grow in intimacy with Christ and experience the continual multiplication of grace and peace.
As we journey through this season of fasting and prayer, God invites us to draw closer to Christ. The deeper we know Him, the greater the measure of grace we receive and the richer the peace that fills our hearts.
