Text: John 14:6 (NKJV)

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”John 14:6 (NKJV)

As we journey through this Lenten season under the theme Grace and Truth (John 1:16–17), today we reflect on one of the most profound declarations of our Lord Jesus Christ. In John 14:6, Jesus does not merely show a way, teach a truth, or give life—He declares that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

This statement was made in the context of uncertainty. The disciples were troubled about His departure (John 14:1–5). Thomas asked, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus responded not with directions, but with revelation—He Himself is the Way.

1. Jesus, The Way

Jesus is the only path that leads to the Father. He did not say He is a way among many. He is the Way.

  • “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” — Acts 4:12 (NKJV)

  • “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.” — 1 Timothy 2:5 (NKJV)

Sin separated humanity from God (Isaiah 59:2). The Law revealed sin but could not remove it (Romans 3:20). Grace came through Jesus Christ (John 1:17). Through His death and resurrection, He opened a new and living way (Hebrews 10:19–20).

In this season of fasting and prayer, we must examine ourselves: Are we truly walking in His way, or are we trying to create alternative paths through self-righteousness, tradition, or human wisdom? Proverbs 14:12 warns, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”

Jesus is not just the entrance to the Christian life—He is the path we walk daily.

2. Jesus, The Truth

In a world filled with deception, shifting values, and moral confusion, Jesus declares Himself as the Truth.

  • “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” — John 8:32 (NKJV)

  • “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” — John 17:17 (NKJV)

Truth is not merely a concept; it is a Person. Jesus embodies the full revelation of God. Hebrews 1:1–2 tells us that God has spoken to us by His Son. If we want to know what God is like—His character, His holiness, His compassion—we look to Christ.

During Lent, as we humble ourselves, we must allow the truth of Christ to confront and cleanse us. Grace forgives, but truth transforms. Grace receives us as we are, but truth refuses to leave us unchanged.

3. Jesus, The Life

Jesus is not only the giver of life—He is life Himself.

  • “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” — John 1:4 (NKJV)

  • “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” — John 10:10 (NKJV)

Spiritual life begins the moment we believe in Him (John 3:16). Eternal life is not just future hope—it is a present reality (John 5:24). Apart from Christ, there is spiritual death (Ephesians 2:1). In Him, we are made alive (Ephesians 2:5).

As we fast, we deny the flesh to embrace true life in the Spirit. Real life is not found in possessions, achievements, or recognition—it is found in fellowship with Christ.

Grace and Truth Revealed in John 14:6

John 1:16–17 reminds us:

“And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (NKJV)

In John 14:6, we see both grace and truth perfectly united:

  • It is truth that there is only one way to the Father.

  • It is grace that this way has been provided through Jesus.

The exclusivity of Christ is not harshness—it is mercy. God did not leave humanity searching in darkness. He gave us the Way.
