LORD, deliver us from the works of flesh so we don’t become less than conquerors
“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies. outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you intime past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21
“Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves
to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of
sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness?” Romans 6:16
EXPOSITION:
When we speak of ‘the works of the flesh’, we are referring to those sinful acts that the Adamic sinful nature in us often prompts us to commit. There are nineteen (19) of these as listed in Galatian 5:19-21 – “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
These works of the flesh being 19, they could by rightly termed ‘19 steps to hell.’ There is no opportune time better than this prayer season to pray to God to deliver us from these sinful acts. As we would pray on this topic, God in His mercy, will hear us and help us to avoid these acts in the name of Jesus.
It is pertinent to note that these works of the flesh are self-centred acts, and operate as a two-edged sword, bringing harm to the perpetrator of the acts on the one hand, and on the other hand to those at the receiving end of the acts. The boomerang effect of any work of the flesh occurs when it triggers negative reactions and counter actions from others. Before you know it, the ugly scene has become broad, almost becoming uncontrollable. Better to avoid indulging in any of the works of the flesh than to think of seeking a remedy to its boomerang effect!
Paul says in Romans 6:16 – “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves salves to obey, you are the one’s slaves, whether of sin leading to death, or to obedience leading to righteousness?” As long as we fraternise rather than to strongly resist these works of the flesh, we will continue to be held in grip and become slaves to them.
This season, the stronghold of these works of flesh shall be broken; their yoke shall be destroyed, shattered and scattered and shall gather no more in the name of Jesus. Amen and amen. God bless you. SHALOM. Pastor Jide Siwoku
Prayer Points:
1. Father Lord, I acknowledge You in all my ways and thank You that today, I shall be delivered from every work of the flesh that can render my services useless in Your presence in Jesus’ name. (2 Timothy 4:18; Galatians 5:19).
2. O Lord, cleanse and deliver us from every negative power of the flesh and sin that robs us of the power of the cross and the victory in the blood of Jesus in Jesus’ name. (2 Corinthians 7:1, Hebrews 12:1).
3. O Lord, today, I desire to be set free from every practice and government of flesh, sin, and lust that is contending with the Spirit of God in my life, children, family and church. Let them be destroyed by fire now, in Jesus’ name. (Romans 8:1-2).
4. O Lord, every assignment of the flesh that is consistently helping us to violate things of the Spirit, be destroyed in Jesus’ name. (Galatians 6:12).
5. Lord, let the power of the Holy Spirit subdue and annul every power of the flesh, immorality, gluttony, jealousies, hatred, envy, and murder that continues to subject me to the desires of the old man, in Jesus’ name. (Galatians 5:19-21; Ephesians 3:14).
6. We put off all the works and force of flesh; envy, lie, anger, wrath, malice, and blasphemy that continue to manifest in our lives in Jesus’ name. (Colossians 3:8).
7. O you, stronghold of flesh in my mind, spirit of self-centredness, vain
glorification and self-exultation in my life, be destroyed by the power of the Holy Ghost in Jesus’ name. (2 Corinthians 10:4).
8. I decree now, that every weight and grip of flesh in my life, children, and church that stops us from commanding in our territory, be destroyed by fire in Jesus’ name.
9. We flush out with the Holy Ghost and fire all self-oriented lifestyles
that destroy Your move of miracles and wonders in our lives and all our
assemblies in Jesus’ name. (Proverbs 14:12).
10. Every dwelling in carnality and flesh destroying our totality in God, receive divine judgment and perish in Jesus’ name (Romans 7:18).
11. All extreme craving that are sponsored and controlled by flesh for material things and desires of things of the world, positioning, power, and recognition, I drag you out of my life today in the name of Jesus. (Galatians 5:16-17).
12. We destroy by fire, all the works of flesh that stop us from being the lamp stand in our territory of influence and make us struggle to conquer and dominate in Jesus’ name. (Revelation 2:5).
13. I reverse in any way I have forsaken and departed from Your love and have answered to the call of the world in Jesus’ name. (2 Timothy 4:10).
14. I declare that I am raised with Christ and seated with Him in the heavenly places, my desire from henceforth will be to seek that which is above and not on things that are on earth in Jesus’ name. (Colossians 3:1-2).
15. Lord, I thank You for You have delivered me from the spirit of flesh. I am more than a conqueror and my spirit is lifted in Jesus’ name. (Romans 8:37)
