Reflection: Open the Eyes of My Understanding to My Resources in Christ

Text: Ephesians 1:19-22 (KJV)

“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.”

One of the greatest challenges believers face is a lack of understanding of their spiritual inheritance. Many live below their divine potential because they are unaware of what is available to them in Christ. Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, prays that their eyes of understanding be enlightened (Ephesians 1:18), so they can know the riches of their inheritance.

The prayer focus for today is to ask God to open our eyes to the resources available to us in Christ and help us connect to them for victorious living.

1. Understanding the Resources in Christ

The moment we receive Christ, we inherit divine resources that equip us for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). These resources include:

A. The Power of God at Work in Us

Paul emphasizes the exceeding greatness of God’s power towards believers (Ephesians 1:19). This is the same power that:

  • Raised Christ from the dead.
  • Seated Him at God’s right hand, above all powers.
  • Gave Him dominion over everything.

This means believers have access to resurrection power—a power that can revive, restore, and transform any situation. However, many remain powerless because they are blind to this truth.

B. Spiritual Blessings in Heavenly Places

Ephesians 1:3 declares that God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places. These include:

  • Divine Wisdom (James 1:5)
  • Healing and Deliverance (Isaiah 53:5)
  • Authority over the Enemy (Luke 10:19)
  • Provision and Prosperity (Philippians 4:19)

Yet, without revelation, many believers struggle unnecessarily. The enemy thrives in the ignorance of Christians. Hosea 4:6 warns that people perish for lack of knowledge.

C. Authority Over the Works of Darkness

Ephesians 1:21-22 reminds us that Christ is seated far above all principalities, powers, might, and dominion. And because we are in Christ (Ephesians 2:6), we are seated with Him, meaning we have authority over demonic forces, sin, and every negative situation.

  • We are not victims but victors (Romans 8:37).
  • Satan is under our feet (Luke 10:19).
  • We have the authority to speak life into dead situations (Proverbs 18:21).

Yet, without revelation, many Christians still live in fear and bondage.

2. What Happens When God Opens Our Eyes?

In the Bible, we see how spiritual blindness hinders people, but when God opens their eyes, transformation occurs.

A. Elisha’s Servant – Seeing Divine Protection (2 Kings 6:15-17)

Elisha’s servant was afraid because he saw the enemy surrounding them. But Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes that he may see”, and the young man’s eyes were opened to the angelic army that surrounded them.

When our eyes are opened, we move from fear to faith and confidence in God’s provision and protection.

B. Hagar – Seeing Divine Provision (Genesis 21:19)

Hagar was in the wilderness, thinking she and her son would die of thirst. But then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water.

Many times, our breakthrough is already nearby, but we do not see it. We need God to open our eyes to divine provisions.

C. The Disciples on the Road to Emmaus – Seeing Christ Clearly (Luke 24:31)

After Jesus’ resurrection, two disciples walked with Him but did not recognize Him until their eyes were opened.

This teaches us that spiritual blindness can prevent us from recognizing God’s presence and voice in our lives.

3. How Can We Connect to Our Resources in Christ?

To fully access our divine inheritance, we must:

  1. Seek God Through His Word (Psalm 119:130) – The entrance of God’s word brings light.
  2. Pray for Revelation (Jeremiah 33:3) – God reveals hidden things when we call on Him.
  3. Walk in Faith (2 Corinthians 5:7) – We must believe and act on what God has revealed.
  4. Be Led by the Holy Spirit (John 16:13) – The Spirit guides us into all truth.
  5. Reject Spiritual Blindness (2 Corinthians 4:4) – We must resist ignorance and deception.

Conclusion

Many believers live in lack and struggle not because God has not provided but because they have not seen and accessed their divine resources. Today’s prayer is crucial: “Lord, open my eyes of understanding to connect to my resources in Christ!”

As we pray, we trust God to remove every spiritual blindness and help us walk in the fullness of His blessings.
