Day 8: Restore Us, O God of Our Salvation

Text: Psalm 85:4 – “Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away your indignation toward us.”

The cry for restoration in Psalm 85:4 reflects a deep longing for renewal and revival. The Psalmist acknowledges that only God, the source of salvation, can bring true restoration. This prayer is relevant today as we seek both personal and corporate revival in our walk with God.

1. The Need for Restoration

The word “restore” means to bring back something that was lost, damaged, or broken. This implies that at some point, there was a deviation from God’s original plan. The Bible shows several instances where God’s people needed restoration:

  • Spiritual Decline – When Israel drifted from God and faced judgment, they cried out for restoration (2 Chronicles 7:14).
  • Moral and National Restoration – Nehemiah prayed for the restoration of Jerusalem after it had been destroyed (Nehemiah 1:4-9).
  • Personal Restoration – David prayed for restoration after his moral failure (Psalm 51:12 – “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation”).

Today, many believers experience spiritual dryness, moral failure, or distance from God. But there is hope—God is always willing to restore His people.

2. The Source of Restoration: “O God of Our Salvation”

Restoration comes from God alone, not from human effort. The Psalmist does not pray for self-improvement but calls on “the God of our salvation.” This means:

  • God is the one who rescues and redeems His people (Isaiah 43:11).
  • He is the source of true revival (Hosea 6:1-2 – “Come, let us return to the Lord”).
  • Only He can remove His anger and show mercy (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Our role is to seek Him in repentance and prayer so that He may restore us.

3. Signs of True Restoration

When God restores a person, a church, or a nation, there are visible changes:

✅ Renewed Relationship with God – A heart that longs for His presence (Psalm 42:1).
✅ Joy and Spiritual Refreshing – The joy of salvation is renewed (Acts 3:19).
✅ Victory Over Sin and Temptation – Sin no longer has dominion (Romans 6:14).
✅ Revival and Fruitfulness – Lives become productive and impactful (John 15:5).

4. How to Experience God’s Restoration

  1. Repentance – Acknowledge personal or corporate sin (Joel 2:12-13).
  2. Prayer and Fasting – Seek God with sincerity (2 Chronicles 7:14).
  3. Returning to God’s Word – The Word brings revival (Psalm 119:25).
  4. Faith in God’s Mercy – Believe in His power to restore (Micah 7:18-19).

As we fast and pray today, let us cry out like the Psalmist:
“Restore us, O God of our salvation!”
