Day 5 Reflection: “I Receive Forgiveness and Redemption Through His Blood”
Bible Text: Colossians 1:14 – “In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”
Forgiveness and redemption are two foundational truths of our salvation in Christ Jesus. Through His precious blood, shed on the cross, we are not only forgiven of our sins but also redeemed from the power of darkness. This divine exchange brings us into a new relationship with God, restoring what was lost through sin.
1. The Meaning of Redemption
Redemption, in biblical terms, refers to being bought back or ransomed. In the Old Testament, redemption involved the payment of a price to deliver someone from bondage (Leviticus 25:25, Ruth 4:4-6). In the New Testament, Jesus Christ is our Redeemer, and His blood is the price paid for our freedom from sin (1 Peter 1:18-19).
Ephesians 1:7 – “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”
Through His sacrifice, Jesus rescued us from the consequences of sin and the dominion of Satan (Colossians 1:13).
2. The Power of Forgiveness Through His Blood
Forgiveness means that our sins are no longer counted against us. The blood of Jesus provides complete cleansing, restoring our relationship with God. Unlike the temporary atonement of the Old Testament sacrifices, Christ’s blood offers eternal forgiveness (Hebrews 9:12-14).
1 John 1:7 – “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
This means that no matter how deep our sins were, Christ’s blood cleanses us completely.
3. Redemption Brings Freedom and Transformation
Redemption is not just about being rescued; it is also about transformation. Those who have been redeemed must live a changed life, reflecting the holiness of God.
Titus 2:14 – “Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
Redemption brings us into a new identity as God’s children, setting us apart for good works.
4. The Blood of Jesus Grants Us Bold Access to God
Before Christ’s sacrifice, access to God was limited (Hebrews 9:6-7). But now, His blood has given us direct access to God’s presence.
Hebrews 10:19 – “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.”
We can now approach God with confidence, knowing that we are fully forgiven and accepted.
5. Living in the Reality of Forgiveness and Redemption
- Reject guilt and condemnation – Romans 8:1
- Forgive others as Christ forgave you – Ephesians 4:32
- Walk in holiness and obedience – 1 Peter 1:15-16
- Live in gratitude for His grace – Colossians 3:16-17
Conclusion
Through the blood of Jesus, we have received both forgiveness and redemption. We are no longer slaves to sin but are now sons and daughters of God, walking in His righteousness. Let us live daily in the power of this truth, embracing the transformed life that Christ has given us.
