“I Receive a Revelation of My New Identity in Christ”

Bible Text: Matthew 3:16-17 (KJV)
“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Understanding Our New Identity in Christ

One of the greatest revelations a believer can receive is the understanding of their new identity in Christ. This is not just an intellectual knowledge but a deep, spiritual realization that transforms how we see ourselves and live our lives. In Matthew 3:16-17, God publicly affirms Jesus’ identity as His beloved Son. This moment was not just for Jesus; it was a pattern for all believers—when we come to Christ, we receive a new identity in Him.

1. We Are Children of God

Just as the Father declared Jesus as His Son, we too, through faith in Christ, become children of God:

  • John 1:12“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
  • Romans 8:15-17 – We have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry, “Abba, Father.”

This means that our identity is no longer based on our past, our mistakes, or how the world sees us, but on what God says about us.

2. We Are a New Creation

Salvation is not just about forgiveness; it is about transformation:

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

A new identity means a new way of thinking, speaking, and living. You are no longer a slave to sin, fear, or condemnation.

3. We Are Righteous in Christ

Many struggle with guilt and unworthiness, but our righteousness is not based on our works—it is a gift from God:

  • 2 Corinthians 5:21“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
  • Romans 8:1 – There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Understanding your righteousness in Christ helps you walk in boldness, free from shame and self-doubt.

4. We Are Loved and Accepted

God’s declaration over Jesus—“This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”—applies to us as well. In Christ, we are fully accepted and deeply loved:

  • Ephesians 1:6“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”
  • Jeremiah 31:3 – God loves us with an everlasting love.

When you grasp this truth, you stop seeking validation from people and rest in God’s unconditional love.

5. We Have a Divine Purpose

Jesus’ identity was confirmed before He began His ministry. Likewise, when we understand who we are in Christ, we can fully walk in God’s purpose for our lives:

  • Ephesians 2:10“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
  • 1 Peter 2:9 – We are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, called to show forth His praises.

Your identity in Christ equips you to fulfill your calling with confidence and authority.

How to Receive a Revelation of Your Identity in Christ

  1. Renew Your Mind with the Word (Romans 12:2) – Spend time in the Scriptures, meditating on what God says about you.
  2. Believe What God Says (Hebrews 11:6) – Faith is required to walk in your new identity.
  3. Reject the Lies of the Enemy (John 8:44) – The devil will try to remind you of your past, but stand firm in God’s truth.
  4. Declare Your Identity Daily (Proverbs 18:21) – Speak God’s Word over yourself: “I am a child of God, I am loved, I am righteous, I am called.”
  5. Walk in Your Identity (Galatians 5:16) – Live in the Spirit, demonstrating the fruit of your new life.

Conclusion

When Jesus received the revelation of His identity, He was empowered to fulfill His mission. In the same way, when you truly know who you are in Christ, you will walk in confidence, victory, and divine purpose. Let today be the day you fully embrace your new identity in Christ!
