In our SDCC churches, we overcome gates of hell in all shapes and shades

“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Mathew 16:18

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” Revelation 12:11

It is Day 12 of our Prayer and Fasting and we thank God for His Grace that has been made available to us at this time to triumph in His Name. Today, we are standing against the gates of hell in all shapes and shades in our DCC and declaring victory over them.

Mathew 16:18 is one of the most reassuring verses in all the Scriptures. It is a promise one with which many have found solace. In these turbulent times, many fall back on the victory of Christ. We rest in it, as we should.

The phrase the “gates of hell” is translated in some versions as the “gates of Hades.” “Gates of hell” or “gates of Hades” is found only once in the entire Scriptures, in Matthew 16:18. In this passage, Jesus is referring to the building of His church: “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18).

It is clear that Jesus was declaring that death and hell have no power to hold God’s people captive. Its gates are not strong enough to overpower and keep imprisoned the church of God. The Lord has conquered death (Romans 8:2; Acts 2:24). And because “death no longer is master over Him” (Romans 6:9), it is no longer master over those who belong to Him.

Satan has the power of death, and he will always use that power to try to destroy the church of Christ. But we have this promise from Jesus that His church, the “called out,” will prevail: “Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live” (John 14:19).

May the gates of hell not prevail over us in CAC Southern DCC in the Mighty Name of Jesus.
