I Receive Strength Through His Spirit

Bible Text: Ephesians 3:14-17 (KJV)
“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love.”

As believers, we are not called to live in our own strength but to draw from the power of the Holy Spirit. Life’s challenges, spiritual warfare, and even our personal weaknesses often drain us, leaving us weary and powerless. However, God’s promise is clear—He strengthens us through His Spirit in our inner being.

On this 13th day of fasting and prayer, we focus on receiving divine strength, not from external sources, but from the Holy Spirit who dwells within us. This supernatural strength is what sustains us, empowers us to live victoriously, and deepens our relationship with Christ.

1. Strength in the Inner Man (Ephesians 3:16)

Paul prays for the believers in Ephesus that they may be “strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man.” This tells us that:

  • True strength is spiritual – It is not just physical endurance but an inner fortification that enables us to stand firm.
  • It comes from the Holy Spirit – The Spirit of God is the source of divine strength that sustains us.
  • It is necessary for Christian living – Without spiritual strength, we will be weak in faith, unable to resist temptation, and prone to spiritual exhaustion.
  • Isaiah 40:29-31“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength… they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.”
  • 2 Corinthians 4:16“Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”

2. Strength to Overcome Spiritual Battles

The Christian journey is full of battles—against sin, the flesh, and the forces of darkness. We cannot win these battles with human effort alone. We need the strength of the Holy Spirit.

Biblical Examples of Strength through the Spirit:

  • Samson (Judges 16:28-30) – Though physically strong, Samson’s greatest moment of strength came when he called upon God.
  • David (1 Samuel 30:6) – When faced with loss and betrayal, “David encouraged himself in the Lord.”
  • Paul (2 Corinthians 12:9-10) – God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness.

  • Zechariah 4:6“Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.”
  • Ephesians 6:10-11“Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God.”

3. Strength to Live a Transformed Life

Paul prays that through the Spirit’s strength, Christ may dwell in our hearts by faith (Ephesians 3:17). This means that:

  • Strength from the Spirit enables us to grow in spiritual maturity.
  • It helps us overcome sin and temptation.
  • It roots us deeper in love and faith.

  • Colossians 1:11“Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.”
  • Romans 8:11“If the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies.”

Conclusion

As we continue this fasting and prayer season, we must recognize that our strength does not come from ourselves but from the Holy Spirit. Through Him, we receive:
✅ Strength in our inner man.
✅ Strength to overcome battles.
✅ Strength to live a transformed life.
