Day 23 Reflection: “I Reign in Life Through Christ”

Key Scripture: Romans 5:17 (NKJV)
“For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”

Understanding Our Reign in Christ

The phrase “reign in life through Christ” is a profound truth that highlights the authority and dominion believers have because of Jesus Christ. It signifies victory over sin, the power to live righteously, and the ability to exercise spiritual authority in alignment with God’s will.

1. The Contrast Between Adam and Christ

Romans 5:17 presents a comparison between two figures: Adam and Christ.

  • Adam’s offense brought death and separation from God (Genesis 2:17, 3:17-19). Through his disobedience, sin entered the world, and death reigned over humanity.
  • Christ’s righteousness brought life, grace, and the gift of righteousness. His obedience on the cross reversed the curse of sin (1 Corinthians 15:22 – “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”).

While Adam’s disobedience led to the reign of death, Jesus’ obedience restored dominion to those who believe in Him.

2. The Abundance of Grace and the Gift of Righteousness

Paul emphasizes two key things believers receive in Christ:

  1. Abundance of Grace – Grace is God’s unmerited favour and empowerment. It is through grace that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8), sustained (2 Corinthians 12:9), and enabled to live victoriously.
  2. The Gift of Righteousness – Unlike self-righteousness, this is a divine gift given to those who believe in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21 – “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”).

These two gifts allow us to reign in life, not by our strength but through Christ.

3. What Does It Mean to Reign in Life?

To reign in life through Christ means:

  • Victory over sin and death – Sin no longer has dominion over us (Romans 6:14).
  • Spiritual authority – Jesus has given us authority over the enemy (Luke 10:19).
  • Living above circumstances – We are not victims of life but victors through Christ (Romans 8:37 – “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”).
  • Walking in divine provision and blessings – God supplies all our needs (Philippians 4:19).
  • Demonstrating the kingdom of God on earth – We manifest His righteousness, peace, and joy (Romans 14:17).

4. How Do We Reign in Life?

  • By Receiving and Walking in God’s Grace – Hebrews 4:16 encourages us to approach God’s throne boldly to receive grace.
  • By Living in Righteousness – Righteousness positions us to exercise spiritual authority (Proverbs 28:1 – “The righteous are as bold as a lion.”).
  • By Exercising Faith in Christ – Faith is the key to overcoming (1 John 5:4).
  • By Living in the Power of the Holy Spirit – The Holy Spirit empowers us to walk in victory (Acts 1:8).

Conclusion

As believers, we are not meant to live in defeat, fear, or oppression. Through Christ, we have been restored to a place of dominion, authority, and victory. We reign in life when we live in the grace and righteousness provided through Jesus. This is not about earthly power but a spiritual reality that affects every aspect of our lives.

Further Study:

  • 2 Timothy 2:12 – “If we endure, we shall also reign with Him.”
  • Revelation 5:10 – “And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.”
  • Colossians 2:15 – “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”

May you walk in your God-given dominion and reign in life through Christ! 🙌🏽✨
