Appreciation to God for His many blessings and benefits

“Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”  Psalm 103: 1-5

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! Seek the Lord and His strength. Seek His face evermore!”  Psalm 105: 1-4

We appreciate God for the third day of this glorious spiritual exercise. Today our prayer will be centred on the praise and worship of our God for all His blessings and benefits. The first thing we are exhorted in Psalm 103 is to praise the Lord whole heartedly with all that we are and have. Our hearts should always abound with thanksgiving and praises to the Lord and not forget his benefits. And the psalmist went ahead to list few of these benefits.

We are to be thankful for the forgiveness we have in Christ. David cries out: “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit” (Psalm 32:1-2).

We are also to be thankful for healing and our good health. Good health is a blessing, and we should never take our health for granted. “O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me” (Psalm 30:2). God’s desire for us as His children is holistic health and healing. (3 Jn.2).

Thirdly, we are to be thankful for God redeeming our life from destruction. Many times we wander astray like lost sheep and like the prodigal son. But Christ is the Good Shepherd of the sheep (John 10:11) and He cares for each of His sheep and will seek out His sheep till He finds it. Christ cares for each of His sheep not only as a group but also individually. Each of Christ’s sheep is very precious in His sight. The scripture says “Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses” (Psalm 107:13).

Fourthly, We are to be thankful for God’s loving-kindness and tender mercies. God’s mercies are great. God does not give us what we deserve. His grace is unmerited and undeserved.

Psalm 103 also enjoins us to be thankful for God’s provision. We need to be thankful for God’s providing for us all that we need such as food, clothing, and housing. “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).

God “redeems your life from the pit” (103:4). He lifts you up from the pit of despair and alienation from God! God “crowns you with steadfast love and mercy.” God “satisfies you with good” (103:5). There is so much that is good that God gives. In Psalm 105 we are exhorted not only praise the Lord but also proclaim his good deeds and testify of God’s goodness to all asunder.

Pray today that you will live in the reality and joy of God’s great blessings and benefits for His children.
