Day 39: I Live United with Christ
Scripture: Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
Reflection
The journey of transformation culminates in union with Christ—a reality where our old selves are no longer the centre of our lives, but Christ is. This verse, Galatians 2:20, is a powerful declaration of a believer’s new identity and the source of their strength, purpose, and direction.
1. Crucified with Christ: The Death of the Old Man
“I have been crucified with Christ…”
This is not symbolic alone—it speaks of a spiritual reality. When we accept Christ, our sinful nature is nailed to the cross with Him. Our old desires, our reliance on self-effort, and our identity outside of Christ die.
Romans 6:6 – “…our old self was crucified with Him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with…”
Colossians 3:3 – “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
This crucifixion is not just the end of the old, but the beginning of something brand new.
2. Christ Lives in Me: The Indwelling Presence
“It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…”
Transformation means we no longer live under the control of the flesh or our own will. Instead, Christ dwells within, guiding our thoughts, shaping our actions, and empowering us to live righteously.
John 15:4 – “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself…”
2 Corinthians 13:5 – “Do you not realize about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you?”
Living united with Christ is a daily awareness of His life flowing through ours.
3. Life in the Flesh by Faith: Trust-Filled Living
“…the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God…”
Although we are still in our earthly bodies, our operating system has changed. We live not by sight, emotions, or human understanding, but by faith in Christ—His Word, His promises, and His presence.
Hebrews 10:38 – “The just shall live by faith…”
2 Corinthians 5:7 – “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Faith becomes the bridge that connects our physical existence to our spiritual identity in Christ.
4. Loved and Redeemed: The Foundation of Union
“…who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
Our unity with Christ is built on His sacrificial love. It is not something we earned; it is something we received. His love made it possible for us to be united with Him eternally.
Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Ephesians 5:2 – “…Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God…”
When we grasp the depth of His love, living united with Him becomes not a burden, but a joyful response.
Application & Personal Reflection
- Am I still trying to live life in my own strength, or have I fully surrendered to the indwelling Christ?
- Do I see myself as dead to sin and alive to God?
- Am I walking daily in faith, trusting Jesus to live His life through me?
The transformed life is a Christ-centered life. It is not simply about behaviour modification, but about identity transformation—where Christ becomes your life.
Colossians 3:4 – “When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”
